Former WRFC Standout at the Standoff position, Gonzo Jouan is the Backs Coach of WRFC.
Gonzo has
been with the club since 1997 when he led Washington to the USA Rugby Super
League Finals in the inaugural season.
Gonzo's playing career included 5 caps for Argentina and 13 caps for the U19
Pumas. At age 16, he was the youngest Division 1 Flyhalf while playing for his
club Curupauti in Bueones Aires. Gonzo also played representative rugby in the
USA for the MARFU for 2 years and the PRU Select Side. He was the starting first
side Flyhalf for WRFC from 1997-2001.
WRFC is excited to have Gonzo working with Head Coach Gerry McDonald
to teach the backs his system for success in the backline. Gonzo is
confident that with the dedication and commitment from the players, it
will bring a winning tradition. "I will teach the players a system and
if they are dedicated, they will win and feel good about themselves,"
Gonzo said. WRFC is proud to have a tradition of excellence that allows
former players to give back to the club and know Gonzo's dedication will
be a well travelled game plan that is based upon experience. Gonzo
brings confidence and knowledge that the players will enjoy.
Gonzo and his wife Susan live in Baltimore, MD. They have two daughters,
Nicole & Cameron and a son, Collin. All three of them play rugby also. Gonzo
owns his own business called Chase Street Properties which provides Corporate
Housing for Johns Hopkins Hospital.
